Do you want to learn how to make a diaper cake? If you are looking for the step-by-step instructions on how to make a beautiful baby shower cake of your own, this is the right article for you. As long as you follow through these simple steps, you will be able to come up with an amazing baby shower gift…

1. Get all the ingredients you need before you start. All the materials that you are going to need to make a diaper cake are like ribbons, teddy bear, baby lotion, baby toys, rubber band, baby bottle, stuff animals, socks, and of course, baby diapers.

2. Next, you will have to decide on the theme of the diaper cake that you are going to make. For example, if you are giving to a baby boy, you can make a theme of soccer, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, which are boy-specific. You can do other theme for baby girl as well.

3. To make a diaper cake, you will need to use at least 10 diapers as the upper tier. Open all the diapers and then roll them in a jellyroll method around a baby lotion. After that, use rubber band or double-sided tape to tight the diapers.

4. Use the remaining diapers to make the bottom tier of the cake. You will need more diapers here because the bottom tier will be bigger than the upper tier. Again, by using the same method, tie all the diapers together and use a rubber band to make them firm.

5. In this step, you will have to join the upper tier and the bottom tier together. Use double-sided tape for this.

6. Decorate your diaper cake. This is the most crucial part of all the process. Be creative and spend more time here. Your decoration will determine whether your diaper cake is beautiful. So make sure you put in more effort here. For instance, you can use ribbons, baby toys, teddy bear, socks and more as your decoration materials.

Cloth diapering a newborn is simple and can save a lot of money. Newborns go through 10-12 diapers a day or more, with cloth diapers you never have to buy more until your baby moves to the next size. I have cloth diapered my daughter since she was in the hospital. When I saw that the expensive disposable diapers we were given had chafed her little legs, I gave them away and she has never worn another disposable diaper. Breastfed baby’s diapers don’t even need rinsing before washing, just toss them in the diaper pail. It all rinses out in the wash. I promise!

How do you choose the right cloth diaper for your family? Consider what is most important to you.

For some parents the sudden reality of a newborn is overwhelming so they prefer the utmost in convenience for diapering. If convenience is your motivator, all in one or pocket diapers are likely to be your best option. While pricier than some other choices, they are by far the most convenient. You might consider also consider a one size cloth diaper. While a one size diaper stash will cost a bit more in the beginning, they will last from about 8 pounds to 35 pounds so you’ll save in the long run.

For some parents the most important consideration is containment. They want to have the minimum risk of diaper blowouts and leakage – this also helps reduce newborn laundry! Fitted diapers with covers are the best for containing messes. Fitted diapers are easy to use, and having a diaper and a cover means you have two layers of elastic at the legs to prevent messy leaks. Fitted diapers such as the Kissaluvs 0, Heiny Huggers newborn, or the Thirsties Fab Fitted are great choices. Bummis or Thirsties diaper covers are both good choices for covers.

Finally, for a lot of parents, the biggest issue is cost. If you are most concerned about the introductory cost, then prefolds and covers are the most cost-effective choice. Newborn size prefolds are very inexpensive and a few diaper covers and prefolds will last until about 10 pounds, or several weeks for small babies. Infant prefolds are a bit bulky on small newborns, but can easily be folded to fit in a diaper cover. They will last until about 15 pounds, so the minor added cost is more than made up for by the extra usefulness of these slightly larger diapers.

There are many ways to economize if you are not in a position to spend a lot of money on diapers right at the start. Washing every day means you need to buy fewer diapers. You can also buy half of your diaper stash as more convenient diapers and half as less expensive diapers so you can fill in with the less expensive diapers if needed. For instance, if you plan to use one size diapers, you can add a few prefolds or fitteds and covers to help you stretch your dollar.

BabyKicks Joey-Bunz Premium 3-Pack, Small Review

I’m quite pleased with my baby kicks. I use them as double-stuffers in my 8-mo-old’s fuzzi bunz to get her through the night. So far, so good. No leaks yet.

These are two hour-glass shaped pads with two layers each, sewn together at the tag. Having them splay like this allows for much more reasonable drying times, and probably better washing too. I boiled mine, and they absorbed just fine after that. The hemp does shrink in the wash, but they’re sized quite amply to accommodate for that. Once wet, they smell a bit different than the microterry I was used to, but it isn’t bad. They’re also thinner than microterry inserts, but seem to absorb at least as much. I haven’t done a side-by-side comparison, so this observation is anecdotal and not empirical. Maybe I should bust out the blue liquid maxi-pad-commercial-style and see what does better.

My only suggestion is this: for my purposes, I think I’d rather have two two-layer pads totally separate than bound together. That way, I could put in an odd number of layers if I needed to. I might actually snip the stitches at the tag to do this for myself.

Bumkins Diaper Bundle 3-Pack- Boy Elements, Large Review

These are one of the easiest to use cloth diapers. They close just like a disposable diaper so are easy for those new to cloth diapering or for babysitters. They offer a very trim fit compared to many other cloth diapers.

These are all-in-one diapers so they do not need a separate cover. I usually use fitted diapers and covers at home but like to keep a few all-in-ones (AIO) like these for quick changes on the go. They are also great for days when she doesn’t want to hold still for a diaper change.

I just bought some more for my 8 month old girl- she is wearing a medium with still lots of room to grow. I also used Bumkins AIO with my older son. We used them almost exclusively once he was a toddler. I could even change him standing up.

I never tried them on newborn. I think separate fitteds and covers are usually better for containing runny newborn poop. I started using them both times about 6 months of age and never had any leakage problems. (my favorite newborn combo was Kissaluvs 0 fitted with an xs Thirsties cover)

I also don’t use them at night because I prefer to use a thicker diaper.

Its easy to use a doubler with these if you need to add absorbancy. You can either just lay it inside or tuck it under the flap.

If they look stained an hour outside in the sun usually takes the stain right out.

I like having natural cotton against the babies skin. My son used to get rashes from diapers with fleece liners.

I don’t think there is one perfect diaper for everybody. These get a lot of use here, but I still also love my fitteds and covers.

If money/budget was a concern my diapering choice would be a good quality prefold inside a Thirsties cover. (You can even just lay it inside the cover)

Bumkins Diaper Bundle 3-Pack- Boy Elements, Large Feature

  • PVC, Phthalate, BPA and Vinyl free
  • Waterproof outer shell
  • Inside are 6 cozy layers of 100% cotton flannel, providing natural absorbency and comfort
  • Includes three diapers, three inserts and one dirty dud’s bag

Diaper cakes make great baby shower gifts. They can be personalized for any baby, make great table centerpieces, and after the shower, the new mom can use the “ingredients” when the baby arrives. They’re the perfect gift!

If you’re not familiar with these creations, the first thing you should know is they’re not edible. You’ll still need to get a real cake for the shower! Diaper cakes are really just a collection of diapers that have been arranged and stacked to look like a tiered cake, and then they’re decorated with bottles, toys, and other baby goods to make it personal, colorful and useful.

Diaper cakes can be from one to four tiers, although larger cakes are more difficult to create or more expensive to buy. But no matter how big they are, diaper cakes are always popular baby shower gifts.

If you want to make your own, here’s how to make a simple two-tier cake. You’ll need about 35 diapers, some ribbon and some small baby toys, lotion, bottle, or other baby goodies.

1. Roll each diaper and tie it with a piece of ribbon.

2. Create the bottom tier by gathering about 25 diapers together and tying them with a ribbon.

3. Create a second tier with about 10 diapers and tie them with ribbon.

4. After stacking the tiers together, take out the central diaper in the top tier and replace it with a baby bottle or small stuffed animal.

5. Stuff baby toys, rattles, lotion, shampoo or other baby goodies in the rolled diapers. For larger items, you may remove some diapers, but be careful not to remove too many and destroy the tiered cake effect.
